FALMOUTH – Six live owls are coming to town Saturday, Dec. 6, along with their human handlers.
From 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., Maine Audubon will host two sessions at their Gilsland Farm Audubon Center to allow participants to see and learn about New England’s native owls.
“Everyone loves owls,” says Judy Walker, Maine Audubon staff naturalist, “yet how often do you get to see one up close?”
That’s what participants will get to do during the program conducted by naturalist Marcia Wilson and photographer Mark Wilson of Eyes on Owls in Dunstable, Mass.
In addition to a slide show introduction to the owls of New England and beyond, participants will get a hooting lesson and tips on how to identify and find owls without disturbing them.
Featured will be a northern saw-whet owl, two eastern screech owls, a great horned owl, a snowy owl, and the newest member of the program, an eagle owl, one of the largest owls in the world.
For Maine Audubon members, the program cost $8 per adult and $3 per child per session. For nonmembers, it’s $10 per adult and $4 per child per session. Reservations are necessary. Call Marie Malin at 781-2330, ext. 241, for more information, reservations or directions.
