FARMINGTON – St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Wilton will offer a monthly community worship service starting at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, in the Mabel Hastie Lounge of Ricker Hall on the University of Maine at Farmington campus.
The brief ecumenical service provides an alternative, eastern style of worship that utilizes scriptural readings, repetitive, chant-like singing and extended silence as a way to connect with God.
“Taize is ideal for students or anyone exploring their faith. It offers an entry into worship that is experiential and user-friendly,” noted the Rev. Tim Walmer, rector at St. Luke’s.
Since the Taize community in France was formed in 1940, thousands of youth have been drawn to its worship style, which incorporates the senses with candles, incense, icons, music and silence.
The service will be on the first Sunday evening of each month. Students and faculty from UMF and community members are welcome to attend.
