At the risk of making myself a target, I would like to vent my frustration over the Maine Use Tax.

I don’t shop in catalogs or online to save money. I always pay a lot more in shipping than I would have paid in taxes to buy the same items locally. I’d rather pay more for something out of Ohio that’s made in the United States, than give the money to Wal-Mart for foreign sweatshops.

I am also forced to shop out of state for wholesale items to use in my own crafts business. I want to buy those things in Maine, but they just aren’t here.

Now that the Maine Revenue Services has made the commitment to aggressively collect this tax, I hope some of the money raised will be used to make it a little easier to manufacture and do business in Maine, so we can begin shopping – and paying the legitimate sales tax – in Maine.
