MINOT – Kyle Chapman, Boy Scout Troop 139, Minot Consolidated School, has worked toward his Eagle Scout award, completing a project at Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary in Lewiston this fall.

There have been several small, but potentially dangerous, fires at the sanctuary in the last three years. Chapman identified the historic stone walls throughout the woods as important firebreaks between a fire and the surrounding neighborhoods.

To earn his Eagle award he supervised 15 other Scouts and adult leaders in clearing years of accumulated debris and fallen trees from the tops of four walls, for a total of 1,955 feet. The Eagle award is the highest in Scouting.
