SOUTH PARIS – South Paris Town Manager Steve McAllister told selectmen Monday night that there was still work to be done cleaning up the mess left by this weekend’s blizzard. Road crews were planning to work through Monday night and into Tuesday morning, but there would still be “several hours” of work “over the next few days.”

The cleanup has run smoothly, with the exception of two breakdowns of town trucks. The loss of a hydraulic hose left one truck out of service all day Monday.

“I think they did an excellent job of keeping our roads as clear as possible,” McAllister said, noting that drifting snow made the job especially difficult.

McAllister asked that residents keep the town in mind when clearing snow from their properties. “Care needs to be taken to avoid moving snow into public ways,” he said, as shoveling snow into roads or sidewalks causes a public hazard.

In other matters, McAllister reported that he had received a copy of a letter from LifeFlight of Maine. In the letter, Charlotte Bailey-McPherson, quality improvement coordinator for LifeFlight, commended the fire departments of Norway, Paris and Greenwood, as well as Pace Ambulance and Tri Town Rescue for their help in a recent automobile accident.

Bailey-McPherson wrote “on October 24, 2003, LifeFlight responded to a high-speed motor vehicle crash . . . All of the above EMS services were on the scene that night.” She noted the “rapid and appropriate response by the field personnel on the scene,” saying that it “really did make a difference in the outcome in this case.”

The meeting then went into executive session.

The next Paris selectmen’s meeting will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 22 in the town office.
