AUBURN – A book fair will be held Friday, Dec. 12, during regular business hours at Temple Shalom. It will feature several hundred titles for adults and children. Inexpensive toys and other Chanukah items will also be available.
The fair is being organized and supplied by SayFair Books, a Massachusetts-based supplier of Judaic books to synagogues, JCCs, Hebrew schools and other Judaic institutions in the U.S. and abroad.

Obligation night
AUBURN – Danville Junction Grange 65 will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at the grange. State Master Steve Verrill will conduct the Obligation Ceremony on several new candidates for membership.
Members are asked to be prepared to donate money for the Christmas project. A Christmas program will be presented. Refreshments will be served at the close of the meeting. All members and guests are welcome to attend.
Rotary auction
LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club’s Thursday, Dec. 11, noon luncheon meeting at the Ramada Inn will feature the annual Christmas auction.
In lieu of a speaker, auctioneer J.P. Maloney will encourage all to bid on more than 80 items. All of the merchandise is donated by club members and local businesses and includes a portable electric heater, gift baskets, clothing, theater tickets, gift certificates and fuel oil.
The event generally raises about $2,000 for the scholarship program and other charitable endeavors with lunch costing $7. The auction will get under way at 12:15. More information is available at www.lewistonauburnrotary.org.
Rescheduled
AUBURN – The Woman’s Literary Union open house has been rescheduled to 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Foss Mansion, Elm Street. Tickets will be $6 for adults and $2 for children ages 5 to 12; under 5, free. Refreshments will be available.
Holiday banquet
AUBURN – Twin City Council 160, United Commercial Travelers of America, will gather at Marco’s Restaurant in Lewiston at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, for a Christmas banquet. LISBON FALLS – The Burnt Meadow Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet Saturday, Dec. 13, at the home of Regent Jayne Bickford. It had previously been listed as a Sunday meeting.
Christmas dinner
LEWISTON – Hope Haven Gospel Mission will provide a free Christmas dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Christmas Day, Thursday, Dec. 25, at the mission, 209 Lincoln St. The meal will be available to shut-ins as well. Those wishing delivery should call 783-6086.
Food for pets
AUBURN – Board members and volunteers of the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society collected more than 500 pounds of pet food at the annual Holiday Pet Food Drive at the Shaw’s Supermarkets in Lewiston and Auburn on Nov. 22.
The shelter relies heavily on the donations made by the community of food and supplies for the animals. More than 60 pounds of dog food and 40 pounds of cat food are needed daily to feed the nearly 3,600 animals who pass through the shelter’s doors. Drop boxes for pet food and supplies will continue to be available at both Shaw’s stores until Dec. 24.
