AUBURN – Youngsters involved in the Lewiston Public Library’s “Hooked on Books” program got an insider’s view of the immigrant experience recently when Grace Liu and Leyi Wang joined the youth book club’s monthly gathering.

Liu and Wang are Chinese natives enrolled as students at Bates College.

They were invited by the library to share their insights about the book, “In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson,” the story of a young Chinese girl’s struggles to adjust to her new life in America.

After a spirited discussion with the children, Liu and Wang showed each of them how their American names would appear if translated into Chinese.
