BETHEL – Junior forward Josh Longway scored 18 points and hauled down six rebounds to lead Telstar to a 57-52 win over Hall-Dale in MVC boys’ basketball action Monday.

The Rebels (2-0) bounced back from a 13-4 deficit at the end of the first quarter to tie it up at 23-all at the half. The contest remained close until the final minutes when Longway scored a pair of clutch field goals.

Sean Caddigan contributed 13 points, including a 3-pointer.

Junior center Matt Wheelock had a strong game for the Bulldogs with 25 points depsite the loss.

Livermore Falls 67, Mt. Abram 58

LIVERMORE FALLS – Garrett Young drained 22 points as Livermore Falls slipped past Mt. Abram to win 67-58 in boys’ basketball action.

Mike Chemard sank 16 points for the Andies (1-1), while Brad Bryant notched 14 points and played solid defense.

Frank Hayes scored 16 points to pace Mt. Abram (0-2).

Yarmouth 50, Gray-New Gloucestor 40

GRAY – Justin Morrill and Jimmy Gensheimer combined for 31 points as Yarmouth beat Gray-New Gloucestor 50-40 in WMC basketball action.

Chase Oliver chipped in with 10 points to help cement the Clippers (1-0) with the season-opening victory.

The Patriots (0-1) were led by Louie Bernerdini with 12 points, while Ralf Spanheimer chipped in with 11.

Georges Valley 75, Monmouth 40

THOMASTON – A.J. Staples and David Wilgus led the Georges Valley attack with 14 points apiece to lead the Buccaneers to a dominating 75-40 win over Monmouth Monday night in MVC action.

Wilgus recorded eight assists while Staples was credited with 14 rebounds for the Buccaneers (2-0). Brett Hutchins chipped in with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Ryan Holbrook added 10 points for the victory.

Miles Butler sank 14 points while Mark Wade added 12 to pace Monmouth (0-2).

Boothbay 73, Lisbon 41

LISBON – Ben Stover downed 20 points as Boothbay dominated play and defeated Lisbon 73-41 in Monday night basketball action.

Jon Farrin and Jack Sherman combined for 31 points for the Seahawks (1-1) victory.

Lisbon (0-1) was led by Chris Kates and Jared Martin scored eight points apiece to pace Lisbon.

Jay 52, Madison 31

JAY – Justin Wells poured in 23 points to lead Jay past Madison, 52-31, in Mountain Valley Conference action Monday night.

The Tigers (2-0) took a 12-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back, leading by 10 at halftime and 14 after three.

Marc Kelvey added 10 points for Jay.

Wiscasset 71, Dirigo 61

WISCASSET – J.T. Haggett and Conrad Griffin combined for 46 points to send Wiscasset to a 71-61 win over Dirigo in MVC boys’ basetkball action Monday.

Dirigo outscored the Redskins in the first and third quarters, but couldn’t sustain the momentum.

Griffin, who averaged 14 ppg as a sophomore, made 10 field goals, including a 3-pointer, and hauled down nine rebounds for the Redskins (2-0).

Brandon Berry scored a hefty 31 points for the Cougars (0-2), while teammate Jon Pineau provided seven assists in a hard fought contest.

Greater Portland Christian 51, Gould 43

BETHEL – Kevin Schooley sank a game-high 19 points to lead Greater Portland Christian to a 51-43 victory over Gould.

Dennis Cram and Andy Foss each chipped in with nine points for the win as well.

The Gould effort was led by Whitney Stowell with 18 points. TJ Savage, Karl Olson, and Quinn McAllister combined for 25 points for the losing Huskie effort as well.

Girls’ basketball
Yarmouth 57,

St. Dom’s 34

AUBURN – Meredith Shaw and Allie Baker combined for 33 points to lead Yarmouth to a 57-34 win over St. Dom’s in girls’ basketball action Monday.

Louise Taylor and Lexie Brunelle each chipped in with nine points for the Clippers (1-1).

The Saints (0-2) were paced by Abby Gilbert and Brittany Gilbert with 11 points apiece.
