JAY – The Area Youth Sports’ Board of Directors will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, at RaNor’s. Discussion will include current projects and plans, upcoming openings on the board and the election of new board members.

Rebekahs’ party

LIVERMORE – Charity Rebekah Lodge of Livermore Falls will meet at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at their hall, the Ralph Wright Memorial Building, 284 Federal Road. This will be their annual Christmas party and will begin with a potluck, with Noble Grand Frances Berry and Paul Washburn in charge. The meeting will be at 1:30 p.m., followed by a Christmas program with exchange of gifts.

Extension meeting

WILTON – The Wilton Day Extension will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Fire Station. A potluck lunch with a Christmas theme will be held. Anyone with a Christmas story, poem or game will be given an opportunity to share it. Plans for the 2004 program will be discussed.

CHESTERVILLE – The Chesterville Grange will meet Saturday, Dec. 13, for its Christmas party. There will be a 6 p.m. supper followed by the meeting at 7:15. This is an open meeting and all are welcome to attend. Please bring a gift to exchange. A children’s Christmas party will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at the Chesterville Grange. There will be time for Christmas caroling, crafts and Santa. All are welcome.

Genealogy society

FARMINGTON – The Sandy River Valley chapter of the Maine Genealogy Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Family History Center. Librarian Colleen Hayford will tell the group about the resources at the center for research for anyone interested in genealogy. Anyone interested in genealogy is welcome to attend.

Children to shop

WILTON – St. Luke’s Episcopal Church is offering an opportunity for area children to shop for their parents from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the church at High and School streets. Gifts appropriate for moms and dads will be available for $1 or less. Free gift wrapping is available to keep the surprise. Open house Sunday

FARMINGTON – The Pierce House will hold its holiday open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at the home, 204 Main St. Along with visiting with the residents, there will also be singing and refreshments. A basket will be available for donations of gifts for needy children.

Christmas musical

JAY – The Bean’s Corner Baptist Church choir will present a Christmas musical, “Great Day,” by Mosie Lister during the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday, Dec. 14. The half-hour musical tells the story of Christ’s birth through a variety of selections, including two featuring a children’s chorus and an upbeat rendition of “Amen” with Associate Pastor Ira Hall as soloist. Other soloists include Alexandra Mason and Sharon Farrington. Don Waterhouse is director. Also on Sunday, the church will hold its annual missionaries party, starting with a fellowship supper at 5:30 p.m. The meal will be followed by a program and presentation of gifts to this year’s missions family, the Rev. Andrew and Nancy Spohrer family. Andrew Spohrer, regional representative for CB International Northeast, is a former pastor at Baptist churches in Dexter and Old Town. The public is welcome to each program, said the Rev. Roger Nauss, church pastor. The church is at the intersection of routes 156 and 133 in North Jay. For more information, people can call 645-2925.

Christmas service

NEW PORTLAND – The North New Portland Community Church is hosting a traditional Christmas service of lessons and carols at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14. The theme of the Advent service will be an old-fashioned New Portland Christmas. The Old North Church will be decorated to resemble the Parsons District one-room school of the 1930s, complete with wood stove, blackboard and school benches. Guests will learn what Christmas in a New Portland schoolroom was like 70 years ago. The service will be filled with music performed by gifted singers and musicians from our community. At the end of the service, everyone will light candles and sing Joy to the World. There will be a reception with light refreshments following the service. Santa is coming

FARMINGTON – Santa Claus is coming to downtown Farmington from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Homestead Bakery on Broadway. Luce Studio will offer professional photographs of Santa with the kids for only $5 each. There will also be a live remote broadcast with WKTJ and free sleigh rides through downtown from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. that day. The activities are sponsored by the Farmington Downtown Business and Professional Association, Franklin Savings Bank and People’s.
