AUBURN – The 619th Transportation Company is shipping out.

Members of the Army Reserve outfit based in Auburn have received their orders. Soon, they will head to a staging area in New York in preparation for deployment overseas.

“They’re going to Fort Drum later this week,” said David Watson, spokesman for the Army reserves. “From there, they’ll probably be sent somewhere in Southeast Asia.”

On Monday, a mobilization ceremony for the men and women of the 619th was held at Central Maine Community College. A U.S. Army band played. Medals were handed out. Relatives said goodbye to the 150 soldiers being deployed.

In a matter of days, the 619th will head to Fort Drum. It is unknown how long the soldiers will remain there before heading overseas.

Now that they have been mobilized, the reserves will become part of the active army. The company will likely be deployed for up to a year, providing transportation for military operations.
