RUMFORD – Rumford Hospital is expected to receive $100,000 from a federal funding bill for computerization of medical records.
Rep. Michael Michaud, D-Maine, stated in a press release that the federal 2004 Omnibus Bill includes $32 million for Maine projects, including funding for the local hospital.
According to hospital spokeswoman Jane Bubar, the funds will be used to computerize hospital patient care information and medical records. She said some laboratory computer work has already been completed.
The funds will also be used to computerize medical records at Swift River Health Care and Elsemore Dixfield Center, both medical clinics affiliated with Rumford Hospital. She said the computerization of medical records at the two health care centers will take about six weeks, starting in late January.
At that time, the number of appointments to be scheduled will be reduced to allow medical care providers more time with each patient, as part of the computerization of medical records process.
