1949-2003

BRUNSWICK – Patricia “Pat” Austin, 54, of 16 Faith St., Lisbon Falls, died peacefully Monday, Dec. 8, at Mid-Coast Hospital, Brunswick with her family at her side.

Born in Lewiston, March 21, 1949, the daughter of Joseph and Marie Conlon Karkos, she spent her entire life in the Lisbon Falls area, graduating from Lisbon High School in 1967. She went on to graduate from Bernard’s School of Beauty in 1968.

On Jan. 18, 1969, she joined Peter A. Austin in marriage. Her commitment to her family and the community dominated her life. Later in 1969, she opened Pat’s Beauty Shop, now called Pat’s Family Hair Care, which is still in existence today.

Pat’s main focus throughout her life was being there for her family. She always put others before herself. She was the president of Lisbon Athletic Booster’s Club for over 15 years, still holds the title of president of Lisbon Hockey Association and was a very active member at Holy Trinity Parish, where she taught C.C.D. classes and ran various church functions.

Besides her civic duty, Pat enjoyed spending time at her camp on Allen Pond with her three sons and five grandchildren. She was always having fun and making sure everything was done for everyone. She usually wouldn’t accept help because she didn’t want others to have to work when they should be having fun.

She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Marie Karkos and an infant brother, Nicholas.

Pat is survived by her husband, Pete of Lisbon Falls; her three sons, Patrick and his wife, Amy and their children, Mitchell, Monica and Nickolas of Lisbon Falls, Tony and his wife, Traci and their sons, Ryley and Noah of Lisbon and Payton Austin of Lisbon Falls; her two sisters, Mary Joe Harmon and husband, Richard of Lisbon Falls and Terry Karkos of Brunswick; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
