WEST PARIS – The Franklin Grange 124 members will hold their first in a series of winter day meetings at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the grange hall on Main Street. A noon luncheon will be included.

‘Timberrr’ signing

PARIS – Maine author Mary Morton Cowan will be at the Paris Public Library from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, to sign copies of her new book “Timberrr…: a History of Logging in New England.” It was published this fall by children’s book publisher Millbrook Press. The book is filled with descriptive text, photographs and colorful stories about the New England logging industry.

Cowan’s interest in the subject grew from the stories her father, Hugh Morton, told of a Paris Manufacturing lumber camp in New Hampshire. Cowan also is the author of “Ice Country” and more than 50 nonfiction articles for children’s magazines. She received an Anna Cross Giblin Nonfiction Grant from the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators towards the writing of “Timberrr.”

Library copies of “Timberrr” will be available for the publisher price of $25 at the library on Dec. 13. Mike Dignan, the Paris library’s librarian, said the book will interest young and old.

Turkey dinner

OTISFIELD – A holiday turkey dinner and music will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at the Otisfield Community School. Music will be provided by the school chorus and instrumentalists.

Christmas caroling, the tree lighting and a visit with Santa at the Town Office will be included. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens, $3 for children under 12, and under 3 free. Performing chorus members or instrumentalists eat for $1.

PARIS – The Swingin’ Bear’s Square Dance Club will host a club mainstream level plus square dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Oxford Hills Middle School. This is the Teddy Bear dance so bring toys to be distributed to needy children. Caller is Chris Pinkham, cuer is Carol Stewart.
