PARIS – Foster-Carroll Post 72, American Legion auxiliary, celebrated its 83rd birthday recently with a supper served by the post.

President Florence McLaughlin and Secretary-Treasurer Marilyn Ramsay presented certificates and pins to the following: five years, Darlene Rogers and Linda Young; 10 years, Darcy Pope, Beverly Pepin, Kathryn Wood, Megan Wood, Joyce Young; 15 years, Rachel Maloon, Whitney Linindoll; 20 years, Dina Marston and Heidi Marston; 25 years, Marion Culbert and Jean Goss; 30 years, Bessie Blanchard and Edna Tobin; 35 years, Marion Houghton; 40 years, Madeline McAllister; 50 years, Etta Mae Korhonen; 60 years, Althea Morse.

State Rep. Rosita Gagne spoke about legislation concerning veterans. She also praised the post and unit for the teamwork carried out in many projects benefiting the Oxford Hills communities and the Western Maine Veterans Home.

Recent projects included raising $350 for the Maurice Dance Theater with a public supper to help their dancers go to the Orange Bowl half-time event; a community children’s Halloween party; a public turkey supper and Chinese auction, which raised nearly $2,000; and a chicken pie supper and dance on Nov. 15.

A Red Cross blood platelet drive was held Nov. 19 to benefit extremely ill patients at hospitals.
