LEWISTON – A church group has organized a holiday benefit concert to help a family in Mechanic Falls.

Mission Community will sponsor a Christmas carols concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, in the hall at Holy Cross Church in Lewiston.

Admission is free but donations will be accepted. Proceeds go directly to the Jeff and Nancy Holt family.

The Holts had adopted two foster children and were building a house when hard times hit: Jeff’s father died, his mother became ill and his wife, Nancy, got breast cancer.

Then Jeff’s employer sent him to Cincinnati for six months, leaving the house unfinished through the winter.

Christian A. Arsenault, the founder of Mission Community, spoke with Nancy Holt and learned that her next obstacle is hanging and taping drywall in her future home.

“We have learned that she has already purchased the supplies, including drywall, tape and compound,” Arsenault said in a prepared statement. “Our goal is to raise enough funds to either hire this job out, or to find enough volunteers with experience in drywalling to organize a work detail at her location.”

He urged people with experience in drywall to volunteer, or people are looking for more information on the concert or the organization can contact the mission at: P.O. Box 863, Sabattus, ME, 04280; 786-0056 or 576-7362; or e-mail: [email protected].

Mission Community is an organization of friends and family who assist families and individuals in the Androscoggin County area. Events have included Thanksgiving baskets, a Christmas toy drive and a clothing drive.
