1908 – 2003

LEWISTON – Emanuel Carlson “Charlie” Charlton, longtime resident of Leeds, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, at Montello Manor.

He was born in Heath, Mass. on July 9, 1908, the son of Rev. Allen and Idella Charlton.

He is survived by his sister Ona Charlton Fellows of Jacksonville, Vt.; four children, Joan Calder, Jane Charlton, Judith Wade and James Charlton; 15 grandchildren; and many great-grand and great-great-grandchildren.

He was pre-decease by his wife of 72 years, Sarah Grace Charlton; two sons, Jeffrey Lee Charlton and Joel Dean Charlton; two sisters, Elna Dumais, and Crystel Murdock; and one brother, Malcolm Charlton.

He was a longtime landscape gardener in Androscoggin and Kennebec counties. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching the Boston Red Sox.
