1937 – 2003

LEWISTON – Gilbert E. Marcotte, M.D., 65, of 180 Walnut Street, Lewiston died Thursday, Dec. 11, at his home following a brief illness.

Born in Lewiston on Dec. 15, 1937, he was the son of Dr. H. Irenee and Graciosa Parent Marcotte. Educated locally, he was a 1955 graduate of St. Dominic High School. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1961 from Holy Cross College in Worcester, Mass., and a Medical Degree from Boston University in 1965.

He had been employed for the last 18 years in the interlibrary loan department of the Bates College Library, retiring just this past October. He was a voracious reader and loved studying maps, enjoyed classical and jazz music, and traveled extensively, especially in the past four years. He visited countries all over the world, and was planning to travel to Antarctica next year.

A member of Ss. Peter and Paul Parish, he is survived by a sister, Louise Marcotte Meri of Philadelphia, Pa.; a nephew, Damian Leigh Bridges of Philadelphia, Pa.; and several cousins.
