1919 – 2003

LEWISTON – Rosaire A. Veilleux, 84, of 102 Campus Ave. and formally of 111 Prospect Ave., died Thursday, Dec. 11, at d’Youville Pavilion following a long illness.

He was born in St. George de Beauce, P.Q., on July 17, 1919, the son of Theophile and Marianna Frigon Veilleux. He lived in this community since 1942.

He was employed by Hemond’s Dairy for 22 years until his retirement in 1978 due to illness. He worked in the Allagash in the logging industry prior to moving to Lewiston in 1942.

He was a member of Holy Cross Parish.

He enjoyed playing softball, bowling, fishing and was an avid card player.

Mr. Veilleux was married on Sept. 30, 1944, to the former Christiane A. Pelletier.

Besides his wife Christiane, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Laurier Christine Lachance of Lewiston, and Ginette LaPerriere of Lewiston; two sons, Donat Veilleux and his wife Doris of Lewiston, and Rene Veilleux of Auburn; two brothers, Roger Veilleux of Sarasota, Fla., and Paul Veilleux of Lewiston; five grandchildren, Claire and Amy Lachance, Laurie Lavertu, and David and Derek Veilleux; five great-grandchildren, Grace and Andrew Lavertu and Chloe, Carter and Gavin Veilleux; and several nieces and nephews.

He was pre-deceased by two sisters, Rose Alma Jean, and Monique Veilleux; and three brothers, Donat, Lionel and Gerard Veilleux.
