The fire was out by the time firefighters arrived.
JAY – A fire in an electrical outlet sent seven people out into the cold on Friday afternoon. That included four children who kept warm in a Jay police cruiser as 30 Jay firefighters responded to a call at 276 Main St., Fire Rescue Chief Brian Shink said.
The fire had snuffed itself out before firefighters arrived, Shink said. “When we arrived there were no flames, just smoke,” Shink said.
Firefighters opened an area around the outlet in the living room to check for fire in the walls, Assistant Chief Rick Duguay said.
“There was no extension of the fire into the walls,” he said.
Denise Grant and her children live at the home owned Bobby DiPompo, Duguay said. Once an electrician inspects the wiring, Duguay said the family would be able to stay there. The outlet short-circuited, Duguay said.
