In the Dec. 6 issue, an Associated Press article in the Sun Journal reported that Acadians would receive an apology from the British Queen for the deportations that
occurred between 1775 and 1783.
These dates are incorrect and more closely approximate the Revolutionary War in this country. The major deportations of the Acadian people occurred in 1755 and again in 1758. Small deportations of individual groups took place between 1755 and the early 1760s. The entire issue ceased in 1763 when the Treaty of Paris was signed, permitting the return of the Acadians among other stipulations.
