GORHAM – Greg Cole drained a team-high 20 points including six 3-pointers, to lead Western Connecticut State to an 81-78 win over Southern Maine Saturday afternoon.

Jay Reginatto added 19 points and Marvin Evans chipped in with 16 points for the Colonials (5-3).

The Huskies (2-6) were led by Jason Levesque with a game-high 26 points and Mike Francouer, who added 23 points.

Thomas 78, Johnson State 76

JOHNSON, Vt. – Adam Rich poured in a game-high 28 points to lead Thomas College to a 78-76 win over Johnson State in men’s basketball action.

Jame Godley added 19 points for the Terriers in the victory. Johnson State was paced by Frank Ponte with 27 points.

Elms 73, Husson 68

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Deshawn Hawkins drained 20 points to lead Elms College to a 73-68 win over Husson in men’s basketball action Saturday evening.

Kyle Seyboth added 18 points including four 3-pointers.

The Braves (3-3) were led by Dwayne Ailey with a game-high 28 points, while Buddy Leavitt added 16 points.

CMCC 95, WCCC 53

AUBURN – Chris Brackett scored 22 points to lead Central Maine Community College to a 95-53 victory over the Washington County Community College.

Josh Berard chipped in with 16 points, while Jeremy Thomas and Lance Poland added 18 and 17 points, respectively, for the Mustangs (11-3).

The Polar Bears were paced by Lucas Hayden with a game-high 26 points and David Pike, who collared 10 points.

Women’s basketball

USM 79, W. Connecticut 43

GORHAM – Sophomore Ashley Marble scored 12 points and the Huskies used tenacious defense as Southern Maine handed Western Connecticut a 79-43 setback in Litle East Conference basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies used a 22-0 run midway through the first half to put the game out of reach. Jen Webster and Tiffany Jones each added 11 points in the lopsided victory.

The Colonials were led by Jennifer Ficarrotta with 11 points.

Mt. Aloysisus 62, CMCC 49

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Michelle Susserman poured in a game-high 20 points to lead Mt. Aloysisus to a 62-49 win over Central Maine Community College in USCAA Round Robin Tournament.

Alisa Buchman and Alisa Baird each chipped in with 17 points in the victory. The Mustangs (7-2) were led by Lakeesha Holloman’s 19 points.

Husson 55, Elms 17

CHICOPEE, Mass – Annie McIntosh and Shauna Mullenix each scored 10 points to propel Husson to a 55-17 victory over Elms College in women’s basketball action Saturday.

The Braves (5-2) took a comanding 37-4 lead into intermission and were never challenged.

Thomas 69, Johnson State 57

JOHNSON, Vt. – Amanda Godley drained 20 points as Thomas College handed Johnson State a 69-57 loss in women’s basketball action Saturday.

Tammy Fowler and Kim Drosdik chipped in with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Johnson State was paced by Becky Honkola with 17 points.

Men’s hockey

USM 7, UMass Dartmouth 4

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – James LeBlanc netted a hat trick, while Chad Lauze added a goal and three assists to lead the Southern Maine to a 7-4 win over UMass-Dartmouth.

Lauze and LeBlanc gave the Huskies (3-4) an early lead, with Lauze netting the game’s first goal off a Steven Slopper feed at 4:04 of the first period. LeBlanc scored his first with 1:30 remaining in the opening period.

The Huskies scored four goals in a span of 3:13 to grab a commanding 6-0 advantage at 10:53 of the second period and never looked back.

Matt Collaton made 22 saves on 24 shots to register the win.

Women’s hockey

Maine 8, Union 0

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Tristan Desmet scored a pair of goals to lead Maine to an 8-0 freeze out over Union College in women’s hockey.

The Black Bears (7-7-3) found the back of the net eight times against the Dutchwomen (3-10-1) for a second night in a row.

Sixteen different players for Maine participated in a barrage of 59 shots on goal.

Lauren Carlson experienced another tiring outing in goal for Union College, turning back 51 of 59 in the shutout loss.
