LEWISTON – More than 100 members and guests attended a reception given Nov. 15 at the Elks Lodge in honor of Lucille B. Nelson of Auburn, president of the Rebekah Assembly of Maine, and her marshal, Mercena Abrams of Lewiston. A banquet followed.

Betty Ann Hammond of Alfred was mistress of ceremonies. The program opened with the introduction of all grand officers by Glennys Wilkins of Winthrop. A receiving line followed. The invocation was given by Mary Jones of Mechanic Falls, assembly chaplain, followed by the president’s chosen hymn, “The Old Rugged Cross,” sung by Margaret Sjostrom of Lewiston, assembly soloist, with Ellen Paradis of Gray, assembly musician, at the keyboard.

Esther Tucker of Poland, noble grand of Liberty Rebekah Lodge, along with Patricia Robichaud of Litchfield, president of Worumbus Auxiliary, LAPM, gave addresses of welcome. Sally Wentworth of Lisbon Falls, district deputy president, gave the response.

Present Company rendered a variety of musical selections, with Diane Meservier and Margaret Sjostrom singing duets and solos, accompanied by Lorna Jollymore on the keyboard. All are of Lewiston.

Greetings were brought from the Grand Lodge by Richard Sukeforth of Albion, grand master; Rebekah Assembly by Roxanne Andrews of Westport Island, vice president; Grand Encampment by Richard Ashline of South Berwick, grand patriarch; Department Council Patriarch Millitant by Col. Michael Anderson of South Berwick, president; from the Department Association Auxiliaries by Alice Glover of Skowhegan, president; Encampment of Auxiliary by Barbara Rand of Portland, special deputy; and Theta Rho Assembly of Maine/Quebec by Ashley Clark of Skowhegan, president.

The program concluded with remarks by Lucille Nelson and Mercena Abrama; solo, “Angels Amoung Us,” by Margaret Sjostrom; and benediction by Mary Jones.

Arrangements were made by Beulah Allen of Auburn and Esther Tucker of Poland, both of Liberty Rebekah Lodge. Arlene Simons of Auburn, Martha Shorette of Lisbon Falls, Janet Hampton of Sumner and Diane Edwards of Lewiston participated as greeters at the gift table and guest books. Photo-taking was handled by Gordon Kimball of Gray.
