Grange program
WINTHROP – Winthrop Grange 209 will meet in the downstairs hall at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, for potluck refreshments chaired by Joyce Jean. The 7:30 business meeting will include a Christmas program presented by Steve and Lee Gilman. Members are asked to bring products for the Winthrop Food Pantry.
VFW meeting
LISBON – VFW Post 9459 and Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the post home. The group will discuss the Adopt-a-Unit program, family Christmas baskets and helping veterans and the community.
Donations will be accepted for items to send to those serving on active duty in the military. The group will have a supper from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, to honor a veterans on leave from Iraq.
The post will give a Christmas basket and gifts to a family it has adopted. The menu will be hot turkey sandwiches with gravy, or ham with all the fixings, dessert, coffee or tea. Cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children under 10. Call 353-5291 after 1 p.m. to reserve a meal.
Society meeting
POLAND – The Poland Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at the Old Schoolhouse next to the Poland Town Office. A business meeting will be followed by refreshments, a Chinese auction and cookie exchange. The public is welcome.
Pineland evening
NEW GLOUCESTER – Pineland Farms will host a Season Pass Holders’ Evening from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18. Join the Pineland Farms outdoor recreation staff and Gorham Bike and Ski for an evening of pre-season ski preparations.
The evening will provide an opportunity for ski enthusiasts to learn all the up-to-date waxing techniques. Hot cider and holiday treats will be served.
The event will be held at the Pineland Farms Visitors Center, 15 Farm View Drive.

Bates club
LEWISTON – The Maine Bates College Club will gather at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, for the Portland Symphony Orchestra’s performance of “Magic of Christmas” at Merrill Auditorium, Portland. A pre-concert reception will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
