RUMFORD – A young Rumford man was charged recently with threatening to cut a woman with a knife, police said.
Alvah B. Pike IV, 22, was charged with a Class C felony of terrorizing with a dangerous weapon, Class B felony burglary, and violating conditions of release. Bail on the terrorizing charge was set at $5,000 cash and $10,000 cash or $30,000 surety on the burglary charge.
Because previous bail conditions were violated, Pike was transported to Oxford County jail in Paris, Sgt. Stacy Carter said.
Those conditions, the result of a domestic assault arrest, stated that Pike was not allowed back into the woman’s Cumberland Street residence, where he once lived, Carter said.
New charges were filed because Pike “went back to the residence at 1:30 a.m., kicked in the door and threatened the woman with a knife,” Carter said.
He left before police arrived. A subsequent search of the area failed to find Pike, who turned himself in to the police station at 11 a.m. Nov. 30.

Passenger summoned
RUMFORD – A summons was issued to a Mexico man Nov. 29 after police stopped a vehicle that ran a stop sign.
Patrick Tripp, 24, was charged with being an impaired licensee while accompanying a learner.
Sgt. Stacy Carter said Tripp was a passenger in a car driven by a 21-year-old man with a learner’s permit.
A driver with a learner’s permit must be accompanied by an adult with a driver’s license.
In this case, that’s what happened.
However, Patrolman Douglas Maifeld, who stopped the car on Hancock Street after it allegedly ran the stop sign at Waldo Street and Rumford Avenue at 12:42 a.m., discovered that Tripp was allegedly intoxicated. He was given summons after it was learned the driver only had a learner’s permit.

Police seek crash car
RUMFORD – Downed power lines on South Rumford Road and a street light that seemingly came from nowhere perplexed police and firefighters responding to the Nov. 28 incident.
An investigation by officer Paul Casey, however, revealed that a utility pole in the area had been struck by a car shortly before 9:15 p.m. The car left the scene.
A Central Maine Power Co. crew replaced the damaged pole and repaired the damage. As of Dec. 2, police were still trying to locate the car and its driver.
