The veterans were presented framed enlargements of the Purple Heart stamp, issued in May.
LEWISTON – Ted Bell, officer-in-charge of the Lewiston Post Office, recently honored four Lewiston postal employees, veterans who received the Purple Heart military medal.
The four men were recognized at the Lewiston Post Office as part of the U.S. Postal Service District of Maine’s Veterans Day ceremonies. Purple Heart veterans Jean “Butch” Lebrun, Michael Nadeau, Roger Theberge and Michael Raymond were presented framed enlargements of the Purple Heart stamp, along with an envelope featuring the First Day of Issue cancellation for that stamp.
The Postal Service issued the new stamp in May. It features a photograph of an actual medal that was earned by a veteran of the Vietnam War. Nationwide, the Postal Service employs tens of thousands of men and women who have served. More than 1,500 out of Maine’s 4,700 postal employees are veterans, and more than 30 postal employees in the state are Purple Heart recipients.
