MEXICO – The vocational school board extended the contract for its director at Tuesday’s meeting. Board members also hired a full-time adult education instructor.

Region 9 School of Applied Technology Director Deborah Guimont said her contract was extended for two years, bringing it to the end of school year 2006. Salary and benefits will be determined in the spring.

Nancy Allen, formerly a part-time adult education instructor with Region 9, was hired as the school’s full-time adult education teacher. Allen, of Wilton, has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Richmond, and has taken 18 additional credits at the University of Maine at Farmington. She becomes the first full-time adult education instructor in more than a year.

Also on Tuesday, Guimont said the board accepted a $49,000 Perkins grant. The funds will be used for the purchase of equipment and other materials for the vocational school’s programs, such as textbooks for the building trades program.

Guimont also reported on leaks that recently appeared in the school’s roof. She said some damage has been done to the ceiling tile and dry wall, but no estimate of damage has been made. An assessment of damage will soon be completed by the school’s insurance company.
