Benefit for church

KINGFIELD – A food sale will held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 20, at Webster Hall to benefit the Kingfield United Methodist Church’s underpinning repair project. Donations of food for this sale would be appreciated. Anyone who would like to have a pie saved, at the cost of $6, may call 265-4217 nights or 265-4637 during the day.

Christmas cantata

STRONG – The Strong area community singers will present a cantata, “King Forever,” on Sunday, Dec. 21, in Fairbanks and Strong. The performance at the Fairbanks Union Church will be at 4 p.m., and it will be 7 p.m. at Strong United Methodist Church. The cantata was written and arranged by Joe E. Parks. Soloists will be Nancy Seelow of Jay, Marnie Voter of Avon, and Charles and Bea Milewski of Strong. Accompanist is David Hovey of Skowhegan and narration will be by Danielle Adams of Strong. Bea Milewski of Strong will conduct the group. This will be the 28th year this group has presented a cantata at Christmas. There will be no charge, all are welcome.

Grant information

FARMINGTON – The Maine Community Foundation is requesting proposals for its Community Building Grant Program. Grant applications from western Maine communities are reviewed by committees of volunteers from Franklin, Oxford, Piscataquis and Somerset counties. Grant awards can be up to $7,500. The deadline for applications is Jan. 15. Awards are announced in mid-March. A statewide organization with offices in Ellsworth and Portland, the Maine Community Foundation awarded nearly $9 million in grants and scholarships in 2002.
