RUMFORD – Students from the River Valley Christian School and area homeschoolers collaborate to perform an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at the Rumford Town Hall.

Tickets are $5 and are available at the door or in advance from any students. Door prizes will be given during intermission. For more information phone 364-4404.

Parade winners

RUMFORD – The River Valley Chamber of Commerce has announced Christmas in the Valley Parade winners. They are: business categories, first place, White’s Yardworks; second place, Wal-Mart; third place, Libby’s Gourmet Foods & Gifts. In nonprofit/civic categories, first place, Rumford Polar Bears; second place, Red Hat Mamas; third place,- Relay for Life.

Foundation grants

The Maine Community Foundation requests grant proposals for its Community Building Program. The program supports projects that capitalize on community strengths to address issues.

Grant applications from western Maine communities are reviewed by committees of volunteers from Franklin, Oxford, Piscataquis and Somerset counties. Grant awards are up to $7,500. The deadline for applications is Jan. 15, 2004. Awards are announced in mid-March.

A statewide organization with offices in Ellsworth and Portland, the Maine Community Foundation awarded nearly $9 million in grants and scholarships in 2002. Application guidelines and forms are available at www.mainecf.org, or by calling 1-877-700-6800.
