LEWISTON – Advocates for Children will sponsor the “Active Parenting Now,” for parents of children ages 5 to 12 program workshops on Wednesdays starting Jan. 21.

The six-week sessions will show parents effective ways to use nonviolent discipline techniques that work; improve communication with children; teach responsibility and other values; handle problems as they come up; cope with difficult topics such as drugs, violence and sex; defuse power struggles; stimulate independence; and encourage children to be their best.

The program uses video, activities and discussion to show ways to raise responsible, cooperative children who are able to resist negative peer pressure.

“Active Parenting Now” will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Auburn Adult Education in collaboration with Advocates for Children.

Child care is available and registration is required. Contact Auburn Adult Education at 784-9220 to register.
