WINTHROP – A Christmas concert will be presented by the Winthrop Center Friends Church, Route 135, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21.

Musicians include Karen Proulx, flute; the Calderwood Consort, early instruments, such as a harp, psaltery, vielle, and recorders; Joyce Fessenden, Linda Johnston and Maggie Edmondson, piano, and Stanley Painter on the organ.

From the Old Tyme Music Makers, vocalist Scott Jones will be accompanied by piano, violin, saxophone, horn and drums. The Edmondson family, Maggie, Ron and daughters Emily and Anna, will sing “A Night Before Christmas,” and a small church choir will present other songs and carols. Maggie Edmondson is pastor of the Winthrop Center Friends Church.

Centered around the story of the Nativity, the music will be a mixture of classical, medieval, well-known Christmas songs from different eras, and traditional Christmas carols.

The free concert will conclude with festive holiday songs, followed by refreshments in the church hall. FMI: call Sharon Benoit at 933-3726.

This annual event is free, and the public is invited to attend and enjoy refreshments following the concert.
