JAY – The VFW Post 3335 and Auxiliary will host the annual children’s party for kids ages 10 and under at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at the post located on the corner of Route 156 and Jewell Street. There will be a magic show, refreshments and goodie bags. The party is open to the public.
Cantata set
FARMINGTON – The Christmas cantata at the Farmington Baptist Church will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, followed by refreshments. A special time of celebration will take place at the 7 p.m. Christmas Eve candlelight service, with refreshments to follow the service.
Pastor Earl Edgerly baptized the following in November: Alan and Kathy Burke, Carmela Thompson, Megan Stewart and Anna Steele. Ladies Spa Day was held on Nov. 22. The cost of admission was a personal item to be donated to the Care and Share Food closet.
The youth had a table at the Mount Blue High School craft fair on Nov. 22 to raise money for youth activities, including Snow Camp.
About 30 boxes were delivered to the collection center for Operation Christmas Child this year.
Exercise class
TURNER – A half-hour slow moving exercise class will be offered from 4:30 to 5 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Jan. 5 at Turner Elementary School. Cost is $2 a class and will feature tai chi, yoga and balanced flexibility activity. The instructor will be Bette J. Swett-Thibeault. Class of ’54
WILTON – The Wilton Academy class of 1954 is holding a reunion on July 17. The following classmates are being sought: Fred Balsar, Harold Buker, Blanche Lakin, Marilyn Moster, Louisa Stevens, Gloria Toothacher and Jack Byron. Anyone who can provide an address should contact Gayle at 645-4856.
Hymn sing held
FARMINGTON FALLS – Members of the Farmington Falls Union Baptist Church recently held a hymn sing. David Hovey played the piano assisted by his father, Maurice Hovey. Members had a chance to share family memories of Christmases past.
The Rev. John Tolman announced he would be returning to Christ Church, Maracaibo, Venezuela, for the month of January. The church, which he pastored for three months in 2002, has not been able to find a replacement after 20 months of searching. He also wants to visit a Salvation Army orphanage, which he helped to support since his return to the states.
During January the church will be pastored by Chandler Woodcock of Farmington.
