WINTHROP – Senior guard Matt McCarthy sparked Winthrop to an 88-54 rout over Dirigo with a game-high 30 points in MVC boys’ basketball action Friday.

Joey Burnham contributed to the Ramblers offense with a double-double on 17 points and 23 rebounds. Corey Gillespie pitched in with nine rebounds.

Winthrop built a commanding 52-16 lead at the half.

Senior Brandon Berry led the Cougar offense with 15 points on six field goals and three from the line.

Mt. Ararat 44, Mt. Blue 42

FARMINGTON – Todd Strong scored 16 points to lift Mt. Ararat to a 44-42 squeaker over Mt. Blue in KVAC boys’ basketball action Friday.

Strong notched a pair of 3-point field goals for the Eagles.

Forward Brian Wells produced the game-high 17 points for Mt. Blue in the loss.

G-NG 66, Fryeburg 50

FRYEBURG – Senior guard Mike Amergian pounded out 16 points to lead Gray-New Gloucester to a 66-50 win over Fryeburg in WMC boys’ basketball action Friday.

The Patriots (1-3) kicked things up in the second half as Seth Farrington tallied 15 points and Ralf Spanheimer added another 12 points, including one from beyond the arc.

The contest was knotted up at 30-30 at the midpoint.

Senior center Martin Steinbuck provided the Raider (2-4) offense with 23 points on 10 field goals.

Hall-Dale 60, Livermore Falls 46

FARMINGDALE – Junior center Matt Wheelock notched 16 points to lift Hall-Dale to a 60-46 win over Livermore Falls in MVC boys’ basketball action Friday.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the first quarter and continued to build on that momentum throughout. Jon Viti chipped in with 10 tallies to his credit.

Mike Chamard led the Andies’ offense with 14 points, while Brad Bryant and Josh Armandi recorded nine and eight points, respectively.

Winslow 63, Oak Hill 28

WALES- Eric Lopez drained 15 points to lead Winslow to a 63-28 win over Oak Hill Friday night.

Taylor Helberg also tallied 10 points for the Black Raiders (3-2).

The Raiders’ (0-5) Adam Labbe downed 14 points and pulled down six rebounds.

Medomak Valley 56, Leavitt 55

TURNER- Matthew Macenzie drilled 19 points along with three, three-pointers for Medomak Valley as it clipped Leavitt with a 56-55 win Friday.

Michael Boetsch tallied 13 points along with Justin Rice who scored 11 on behalf of the Cougars (1-2).

The Hornets’ (0-3) Brandon Powell hit for 16 points while John Pirruccello and Jake Witham each scored 10.

York 54, Poland 34

POLAND- Brandon Arsenault sparked a game-high of 17 points to help lead York to a 54-34 win over Poland Friday evening.

Mike Ross chipped in with 15 points for the Wildcats (3-2).

For the Knights (1-5), Josh Pomerleau and Kyle Purrington combined for 15 points.

Lisbon 66, Mt. Abram 53

LISBON – Lisbon’s Jared Martin scored 18 points as the Greyhounds rolled past Mt. Abram 66-53 in a MVC boys’ basketball matchup Friday.

Frank Hayes and Aaron Adams combined for 33 of Mt. Abram’s 53 points. Levi Ervin scored 12 and Chris Kates drained 11 for the Greyhounds.

Telstar 61, Boothbay 53

BETHEL – Telstar’s Sean Caddigan scored a team-high 20 points in a 61-53 victory over Boothbay Friday. Boothbay’s Mike Norton led the way with 21 points.

Josh Longway and Ryan Savage combined for 25 to help Telstar (3-1) knock off Boothbay (3-3).

Rangeley 79, Forest Hills 54

RANGELEY – Rangeley was led by Jim Goodwin who scored a game-high 31 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as the Lakers steamroled past Forest Hills 79-54 in boys’ basketball action Friday.

Matt Achey scored 27 for Forest Hills. Rangeley’s David Jensen scored 13 points and had 16 rebounds.

Oxford Hills 74, Waterville 58

WATERVILLE – Senior forward Corey Tielinen had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to pace Oxford Hills to a 74-58 win over Waterville in KVAC boys’ basketball action Friday.

Matt McDonnell tossed in four field goals of the 3-point variety and made four free throws to contribute 16 points for the Vikings (3-0). Tielinen went 6-for-7 from the line in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Vikings.

Tobey Spector shot a game-high 18 points, while Brian Tormollan accounted for 17 points for the Panthers (0-3).

Hockey
Lewiston 8, Brunswick 3

BRUNSWICK- Eric Grenier punched in Lewiston’s winning goal at 13:33 in the first quarter to lead Lewiston to an 8-3 victory over Brunswick in a Friday evening hockey matchup.

Grenier also had two assists on behalf of the Devils (3-0).

Brandon Girardin scored a goal late in the third period and also assisted on three others.

For the Dragons (1-3), Derek Paquet scored two goals in the third period five seconds apart. Adam Talbot assisted Paquet on both goals.
