The Red Sox have gone 85 years without the big win.

We’ve hunkered down for the last 85, what are 15 more?

But in 2018, watch out world.

Owners and managers, you’ve got 15 years to establish a truly grand strategy.

Players – backyard ball tossers, Little Leaguers, high school sluggers – you are the hope we embrace. Some will soar and succeed, some will be dragged down, and most will barely lift off the ground. Without giving your most optimistic effort, most fervent desire, you’ll not know if you can hit the big league. You’ll only know by hurling every pitch as hard as Pedro’s fastest or as unhittable as Wakey’s woolliest, running out the most pathetic little dribbler (huh, Manny?), and straining like Nomar to catch the most impossible liner.

Is this just for the athletes in our midst?

If there’s nothing to work harder at? Yes, this is not for everyone.

If your friendships have deep roots, wide reach and great joy, you are good to go for the next 15 years.

If you play with your buddies or kids or grandkids without caring if you get dirty or look dorky, you don’t need to apply this.

If your marriage has all the joy and sparkle possible, this isn’t for you.

If you are already working with all the ability your heart can dig up, your calling is sure. Go teach others how to live with all their heart and soul and might.
