ANAHEIM, Calif. – Niko Dimitrakos set up goals by Patrick Marleau and Vincent Damphousse and Evgeni Nabokov made 24 saves as the San Jose Sharks beat the Anaheim Mighty Ducks 2-1 Sunday night.

Marleau opened the scoring at 11:40 of the first period with his 13th goal and fifth in seven games. He got a pass in the right circle from Dimitrakos and beat Jean-Sebastien Giguere to the stick side with a one-timer from 15 feet.

The Sharks received a two-man advantage less than four minutes into the second period after Michael Holmqvist and Keith Carney were sent off for high-sticking 29 seconds apart. Damphousse beat Giguere with a 20-foot backhander from the left circle for his third goal of the season, just as Holmqvist stepped out of the penalty box.

Devils 2, Blackhawks 2

CHICAGO – Ville Niemenen scored with 3:49 remaining in the third period to rally the Chicago Blackhawks to a 2-2 tie with the New Jersey Devils on Sunday night.

Niemenen took a pass from Scott Nichol and skated from the right circle into the slot before beating Martin Brodeur with a wrist shot from 15 feet.

Chicago ended a two-game losing streak but has only one win in its last 20 games (1-12-4-3). New Jersey finished its five-game road trip with three wins and a tie.

Scott Gomez and Scott Stevens scored and assisted on each other’s goals for New Jersey. Burke Henry scored in the third period for Chicago.

Thrashers 4, Flyers 1

ATLANTA – Ronald Petrovicky scored twice and Byron Dafoe made 25 saves to help the Atlanta Thrashers beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-1 Sunday night.

Ilya Kovalchuk added his NHL-leading 21st goal and Slava Kozlov also scored for the Thrashers, who won their second straight after a three-game losing streak, during which they were shut out in each. They increased their lead in the Southeast Division to five points over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

John LeClair had a power-play goal for the Flyers, who fell behind 1-0 for the 13th straight game when Petrovicky scored only 1:29 after the faceoff.

Philadelphia has won just once in seven games (1-2-2-2), but stayed tied with Toronto for the points lead in the NHL.

Islanders 5, Capitals 4

WASHINGTON – Alexei Yashin snapped a tie early in the third period and the New York Islanders beat the Capitals 5-4 Sunday night for their first victory in Washington since 1997.

The Islanders, who broke a two-game losing streak and a six-game road skid, had not won a road game against the Capitals since beating them 2-0 on April 12, 1997, at the team’s former arena.
