NEW YORK (AP) – Bobby Holik and Petr Nedved each scored twice Monday night to lead the New York Rangers to a 4-2 victory over the Boston Bruins.

Holik’s empty-net goal at 19:14 of the third period sealed the victory. Just before, Mike Dunham made a lunging toe stop to deny Patrice Bergeron’s attempt at the tying goal. Bergeron fired at a seemingly open net from the slot.

The Bruins took a 1-0 lead at 5:54 of the first period on a power-play goal by Bergeron, his seventh. Joe Thornton blasted a shot from the slot that Dunham stopped, but Bergeron converted the rebound from just to the right of the goal crease.

The assist was Thornton’s 25th of the season.

Holik’s eighth goal at 10:52 tied it 1-1 after a wild scramble around the Boston net.

Darius Kasparaitis took a low screen shot that bounced off the right post through Andrew Raycroft’s legs and out in front of the net. Holik dived across the crease to lift the puck over Raycroft’s pad just as the net was being dislodged. A video replay showed the puck crossed the line before the net was off the post.

P.J. Axelsson pulled Boston within 3-2 at 16:08 with a brilliant offensive move for his third goal. Axelsson took a pass at center ice from Bergeron, split the Rangers defense, and beat Dunham high on the stick side.

Notes: Holik was matched against Thornton by Rangers coach Glen Sather. … Raycroft made his ninth consecutive start. … Dunham improved to 6-1 career against Boston. … Rangers C Eric Lindros had an assist on Nedved’s first goal for his 40th point against the Bruins (10 goals, 30 assists) in 30 games.
