1916 – 2003
LEWISTON – Theodore Barbalias, 87, died early Monday morning, Dec. 22, at Russell Park Health Care Facility where he had been a resident for the past two months.
He was born in Lewiston Jan. 9, 1916, a son of Constantine and Stavroula (Andrianos) Barbalias.
He was educated in Lewiston schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community.
He was a Veteran of the Military having served in the Army during World War II.
Prior to entering the service, he worked for a time in his father’s business which was a fruit business. After coming back from the service, he worked several years in different factory and shoe manufacturing jobs.
He later worked several years for the City of Lewiston Department of Public Works until his retirement in 1979.
He was an active and lifelong member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and was also a life member of AHEPA and the YMCA. He volunteered for several years at local nursing homes and was also very active in Horizons 55.
In his younger years he enjoyed traveling and sports activities.
His wife Pauline Barbalias died in 1975.
He leaves two brothers, Louis Barbalias of Bangor and Arthur Barbalias of Houston, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Helen Zimbis and Katherine Barbalias; and one brother, Peter Barbalias.
