1911 – 2003

LEWISTON – Marguerite L. Daigle, 92, of 36 Shank St. and formerly of 19 Biron Ave., Lewiston, died Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 23, at the Marshwood Health Care Facility.

She was born in Canada Sept. 26, 1911, a daughter of Francois and Leda (Simoneau) Landry. She grew up here, attended local schools and remained a lifelong resident of this community. In November of 1947, she married Clarence “Bill” Daigle who died in January of 1978.

She worked many years in local shoe shops as she and her husband raised their family. She was a member of Holy Cross Church and in her free time she enjoyed sewing as she was quite an accomplished seamstress. She also was very caring and giving over the years in many different ways to her whole family.

She leaves a daughter, Rita Desmarais of Lewiston; a son, Roland Daigle and wife Joanne also of Lewiston; four grandchildren, Mike Desmarais and wife Kelly of Turner, Bill Desmarais and wife Becky of Lewiston, Matthew Daigle of Lewiston and Shelly Daigle of Kentucky; four great-grandchildren, Willy, Courtney, Cole, and Lindsey Desmarais; three sisters, Emilienne Roy, Gertrude Martel and Georgette Poisson all of Lewiston; and one brother, Robert Landry of Florida.

She was predeceased by a grandson, Jeff Desmarais; her son-in-law, Robert Desmarais; six brothers, Wilfred, Gerard, Henry, Camille, Rosaire, and Armand Landry; and four sisters, Marie Jeanne Beaulieu, Ophelia Gagne, Medora Gauthier and Juliette Provencher.
