1919 – 2003

FARMINGTON – Olena Maxine Witham, 84, of Farmington died Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Sandy River Center for Health Care.

She was born June 14, 1919, in Freeman, the daughter of Martin and Violetta (Douglass) Stevens. She was educated in the schools of Strong. She married Dana M. Witham July 13, 1956, he died April 25, 1993. She worked for Phillips Wood Heal Co. for seven years and for Farmington Shoe for more than 11 years, retiring in 1972.

She has resided in Farmington since 1979. “Maxine” enjoyed making quilts, crocheting, arts and crafts and spent many hours doing puzzles of all sorts.

She is survived by two daughters, Dawn Adams of Avon, and Marilyn Thompson of East Machias, two stepdaughters, Ruth Goodwin of Farmington, and Aldana Gray of East Wilton; a son, Martin (Sam) White of Florida; a stepson, Arthur Witham of Phillips; 29 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Lucille Davis of Farmington.

She was predeceased by two sons, Helon and Douglass White; a daughter, Rebecca Cummings; a stepdaughter, Brenda Allen; three sisters, Mary Spaulding, Hilda Stinchfield, and Ruby Doble.
