FARMINGTON – Two sterile processing technicians at Franklin Memorial Hospital have received notification from the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution that they have successfully completed criteria for certification as sterile processing and distribution technicians.

The recipients, Janyce Thurlow and Angela Welch, said that they studied and prepared for the International Certification Examination all summer by using the Training Manual for Central Service Technicians by the American Society for Healthcare Central Service Technicians.

Angela Welch, an employee of FMH for 15 years, was recertified and Janyce Thurlow was certified for the first time. Thurlow has worked at Franklin Memorial for five years.

Hospital sterile processing/central service technicians are specialists in sterilization practices and procedures that support the medical profession by decontaminating hospital equipment and instrumentation, reprocessing instruments for sterilization, and properly handling sterile storage.
