DURHAM, N.C. (AP) – J.J. Redick scored a season-high 22 points, and freshman Luol Deng added 18 Monday to lead No. 2 Duke past Davidson 88-54.
Shelden Williams added 14 points and six blocks for the Blue Devils (9-1), who pushed their home winning streak to a national-best 33 games. Duke has won six straight games since a 78-68 loss to Purdue in the Great Alaska Shootout on Nov. 29.
Ian Johnson scored 14 points to lead the Wildcats (4-7), who have lost 17 straight games against Duke. Davidson shot 34 percent and had 22 turnovers.
The win improved coach Mike Krzyzewski’s record at Duke to 599-176, putting him one win away from becoming the 13th coach in Division I history with 600 victories at one school.
Last season, Davidson played well against Duke, trailing by just six points with 1:06 to play before falling 95-80. The Blue Devils allowed no repeat Monday, scoring 19 straight points to open the second half in their final tuneup before opening Atlantic Coast Conference play at Clemson on Saturday.
Duke led 22-17 late in the first half before going on a 36-5 run that spanned halftime. The Blue Devils put on one of their best shooting displays of the season, hitting 15 of 20 shots during the run and shooting 51 percent for the game.
Davidson, meanwhile, missed 12 of 13 shots as the game turned one-sided.
Redick was shooting just 33 percent from behind the arc this year, down from 40 percent last year, but the sophomore went 6-for-10 from 3-point range Monday.
At one point early in the second half, he hit a 3 from the left wing off a feed from Chris Duhon, stole a pass at midcourt, then pulled up on the break and hit a straightaway 3 for a 49-22 lead. His 3-pointer from the right wing pushed the lead to 58-22 with 15:46 to play.
Deng fueled a first-half run that gave the Blue Devils some breathing room. With Duke leading by five, Deng took a feed from Duhon on the break and slammed it over Brendan Winters, knocking the guard to the ground.
Deng made a free throw to complete the three-point play that sparked a 12-2 spurt. Deng had eight points during the run, ending with his slam off an alley-oop pass from Duhon for a 34-19 lead with 3:13 left in the half. His layup off a turnover near midcourt gave the Blue Devils a 39-22 lead at the break.
