PERU – It may be the end of the year, but plans for next year’s annual town meeting are already gearing up.
Nomination papers for one selectman’s seat and two slots on the school committee are available at the town office until Feb. 6, when papers must be filed. The three positions are for three-year terms.
Seats are held by Selectman Norman DeRoche and School Committee members Patricia Hunt and Janet Rowley. Town Clerk Vera Parent said Monday that no one has taken out nomination papers. Those who do must gather the signatures of 25 to 75 registered Peru voters.
The deadline for submitting town meeting warrant articles is Jan. 12. The meeting is set for Saturday, March 20. Voting takes place on Monday, March 22.
Parent said the town is also looking for at least six members for the Finance Committee, for terms of three years. Volunteers would likely meet two or three times in February to help review the municipal budget, then again in June to review the school budget.
Two members of the Planning Board, and one alternate are also needed. All terms are for three years.
Anyone interested in volunteering for either committee or board should contact the Peru Town Office at 562-4627.

Nomination papers available
ANDOVER – This town, too, is also beginning preparations for its annual town meeting that takes place on Saturday, March 20. Elections are set for Monday, March 22.
Nomination papers are available from the town office until Feb. 6 for one selectman’s seat and one on the SAD 44 board.

The one seat up for election is held by Selectman Laura Hutchins, who plans to run again. So far, one other person has taken out papers to run for the position, Gerald Savage. For SAD 44 school board, the seat held by long-time member and chairwoman Kellie Scotti is up for a vote.
