RUMFORD – A Rumford man was arrested early Thursday morning after he nearly collided head-on with a police cruiser on Hancock Street.
Daniel Desrosiers, 24, was charged with operating under the influence and released on $450 cash bail.
“He had a blood alcohol content of .14,” said Sgt. George Cayer.
Desrosiers is to be arraigned Feb. 3 in Rumford District Court.
According to Cayer, Roy Hodsdon was patrolling Hancock Street at 1:19 a.m. when he spotted a 1995 Honda Del Sol sports car being driven erratically.
The Honda sustained $2,500 damage when the driver hit a snowbank.
and was towed by Adley’s of Rumford.
Hodsdon’s report stated Desrosiers, who was driving the Honda, allegedly turned left “very erratically” onto Hancock Street, and “barely missed the front bumper of the cruiser.”
Hodsdon reversed course, flipped his lights and siren on, and gave chase. But the pursuit was short.
“Desrosiers’ vehicle accelerated rapidly, turning left very erratically onto Maine Avenue, where it crashed into a snowbank,” Cayer said.
The Honda sustained $2,500 damage and was towed by Adley’s of Rumford.
