LEWISTON – The Lewiston Senior Citizens will meet at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at the Multi-Purpose Center, 145 Birch St. The meeting will include installation of the new board officers, the final vote on the bylaw updates and the second reading of the bylaw revision to allow past presidents to receive free membership.

Peggy Rotundo will discuss legislative information and Lou Dineen will give a short demonstration on flying.

Rosary Sodality

LEWISTON – The Rosary Sodality of St. Patrick’s Church will hold recitation of the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, in the chapel. A meeting will follow in Monsignor Gleason Hall and coffee and refreshments will be served by Nicole Lebonte and her committee.

Seniors speaker

AUBURN – First Auburn Seniors will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Hasty Community Center, Pettengill Park. The board of directors will meet at 10 a.m. There will be a pot of gold and raffle drawings. Tickets will be on sale for the Jan. 21 spaghetti dinner.

Following the meeting and a bag lunch, a representative from SeniorsPlus will speak on the services offered for seniors, including home care, emergency situations and critical needs.

The club celebrated Christmas at the Martindale Country Club on Dec. 17. In spite of stormy weather, many turned out for a full-course luncheon and a musical program of Christmas songs presented by Phil House and Debbie Morin. President Betty Hebert gave everyone a Christmas ornament, which she had made as table favors.

Pot of gold winners were Elsie Whitney, Judy Holbrook, Kay DeBurra, Marilyn Hay and Philip Fyfe.

AUBURN – The Frank W. Hulett VFW Auxiliary past presidents held their annual Christmas party at the Village Inn on Dec. 3. Gifts were exchanged, secret pals for the past year revealed and new secret pals drawn. The next meeting will be held Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the home of Mary Lawlor. At that time, a new slate of officers will be elected.

LEWISTON – MEOC 101: The Essentials of College Planning will be offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the Lewiston Career Center, sponsored by the Maine Educational Opportunity Center. Financial aid

LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon High School Guidance Department will hold a financial aid night at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, for seniors and their parents in the school library.

John Bowie, a school graduate and director of financial aid at the University of New England, will explain the free application for federal student aid form and will discuss financial aid in general.

NEW GLOUCESTER – Sabbathday Lake Grange will hold a winter sale from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at the grange hall, Route 26. Among the items available will be knit and crochet articles, homemade food, old books and crafts. There also will be a coffee shop and snack bar. Lots of mittens

AUBURN – Cote Brothers Sewing Machines has completed the second annual Mittens for Kids community event. They joined with WCSH Channel 6’s annual Coats for Kids by sewing mittens to donate to the Salvation Army.

Store employees and area residents collected fleece and sewed mittens and hats, resulting in 1,165 pairs of mittens and hats.

The store welcomes anyone to take home the extra fleece that was collected, take a pattern and start sewing for next year when staff hopes to more than double the numbers.
