SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Kelly McComber poured in a game-high 25 points, including four 3-pointers, and Kacey Wunsch chipped in with 17 points to lead Springfield College to a convincing 75-58 win over Bates College in the first round of the Holiday Inn Naismith Women’s Basketball Classic.

The Bobcats (4-4) were led by Olivia Zurek and Heather Taylor with 14 and 11 points.

Grinnell 116, Colby 77

WATERVILLE – Steve Wood scored 22 points and added eight rebounds and seven assists as Grinnell College downed Colby 116-77 in the championship of the Colby Invitational.

The Pioneers (7-0) executed a fast-paced style of play as Steve Nordlund pitched in with 21 points and guard Ken Heiser recorded 14 assists in the winning effort.

Nate Dick led the Mules with 13 points and seven rebounds and made the all-tournament team along with teammate Michael Westbrooks, who had 12 points and six assists. Nate Loukes added 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Andrew Jenkins had 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Hockey
Curry 4, Colby 1

MILTON, Mass.- Chet Ferreira scored at 4:32 in the second period to lead Curry to their 4-1 victory over Colby in Saturday afternoon hockey action.

Ferreira chipped in again with a goal later in the second period at 13:06 to confirm the win.

Colby’s attempt was seen by Kevin Lyons who scored Colby’s lone goal at 18:26 in the second. Colby’s Ben Grandjean mustered 26 saves for the loosing effort.
