ORONO (AP) – Mark Flavin and Eric Dobson each scored 12 points as Maine defeated Stony Brook 46-41 in a defensive struggle Sunday afternoon in a game that featured nine ties and seven lead changes.

Maine (8-3, 2-0 America East) held Stony Brook (3-8, 0-2) to just four field goals and 16 points in the second half, but couldn’t shake off the Seawolves until the final minutes.

D.J. Munir, Stony Brook’s leading scorer, was held to seven points. Mike Konopka led the team with 12 points.

The Black Bears and Seawolves were tied 25-25 at halftime.

Down 35-30 with 15:14 remaining in the game, Maine scored nine unanswered to take a 39-35 lead.

Stony Brook tied the game twice more, but the Black Bears scored the game’s last five points for the final margin of victory.
