Mount Washington

GORHAM, N.H. – Lion Head summer trail is closed and the Lion Head winter route is now open at Mount Washington. It is the safer path in terms of avalanche hazard to get above treeline accessing the summit from the east, report rangers at the Mount Washington Avalanche Center.

Forest Service snow rangers recommend checking the latest avalanche advisory before traveling to Mount Washington. People may phone the Forest Service at (603) 466-2713, extension 4 (TTY 603-466-2856) or go online at www.tuckerman.org.

Forest Service snow rangers, the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Hermit Lake caretaker, and the Harvard Mountaineering Club cabin caretaker are available in Tuckerman and Huntington ravines to answer questions about skiing, riding, climbing, and hiking, and to provide the latest safety advice.
