NEW SHARON – Two people were charged Sunday with conspiracy to traffic in drugs after allegedly entering into a third-party agreement to furnish drugs.

Maine drug enforcement agent Randy Keaten conducted an investigation Sunday after a recovering addict reported some people were trying to sell him drugs, agency Supervisor Gerry Baril said.

Keaten arrested Torie York, 26, of North Vassalboro and William Murphy, 31, of Augusta, Baril said.

The two allegedly made arrangements to sell a small quantity of cocaine and OxyContin tablets to an individual in New Sharon, Baril said. As a result, the suspects were supposed to meet the customer at a place in the town.

Keaten, State Police and Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and the Livermore Falls police were involved with the case. Livermore Falls officer Ken Bryant brought the case to the drug agency’s attention, Keaten said.

No OxyContin tablets were found but generic aspirin was found once the suspects were apprehended, Baril said. But hypodermic apparatus, which includes a syringe and needle, and a charred spoon with some drug residue on it were found, Baril said.

The residue has been sent to a state laboratory for analysis, he said.

Police didn’t find any cocaine, Baril said. They did find generic, over-the-counter tablets, he said. It appeared to be an attempt to rip off the customer, Baril said.
