LEWISTON – Lewiston City Councilor Norm Rousseau and six members of the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council participated in a 12-hour “Rock for the Clock” fund-raiser from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Jan. 2. The event successfully raised the $2,500 necessary to achieve a $2,500 match opportunity from Modern Woodmen, and on-site donations added to the total.

The funds will be utilized toward the multi-level siting of the city’s 1891 E. Howard clock, the mechanisms of which were restored in 2002 by Balzer Family Clock Works.

Once completed, the placement will feature glass-encased mechanisms along with a 14-foot swinging pendulum, also encased in glass, located inside City Hall’s Pine Street entrance.

A rod will extend to the tower enabling the correct time to be seen by the community via new clock faces.

Council Chairwoman Tarrah Bowen said, “The youth council is proud to participate in initiatives to preserve such an important part of Lewiston’s history, and we hope this will become an attraction appreciated by residents and tourists alike.”
