CAMDEN – Make-A-Wish-Foundation Executive Director Tom Peaco said people have been making fraudulent telemarketing calls in his organization’s name.

“I want the community to know unequivocally that as a matter of policy we do not conduct telephone solicitations,” Peaco said. “The Make-A-Wish-Foundation has a nationwide policy against telephone and door-to-door solicitations.”

Peaco said he has received reports that callers are claiming to be raising money on behalf of local police and fire departments and that the funds will be donated to his foundation.

Peaco said anyone receiving such a call should refuse the solicitation and contact the Camden office at 1-800-491-3171.

The foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. The 80 chapters nationwide.

Peaco said the Maine chapter has granted wishes to children in each of Maine’s 16 counties.
