LEWISTON – Beacon Hospice and Palliative Care is accepting volunteer applications for its next volunteer training session scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the office, 55 Lisbon St., Suite 2600.
The seven-session, 21-hour training program will explore the volunteer hospice experience, focusing on a wide range of topics, including introduction to hospice, pain management, spirituality, family dynamics, communication, bereavement and volunteer rights and responsibilities.
“Volunteers are invaluable in helping our hospice patients and their families cope with the emotions and the challenges presented at the end of life,” said Donna Rousseau, volunteer coordinator for Beacon. “Through our comprehensive training program combined with ongoing education and support from our Beacon staff, volunteers can feel well-prepared for the hospice experience.”
Rousseau said that as the demand for hospice services continues to grow, so will the need for volunteers who are key to their hospice team.
